Review: Kings North 5/27/12

Bow to the King

Date Played: May 27, 2012

Myrtle Beach National is home to 3 Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Courses. The premier course at National is King's North.

King's North is a challenging layout stretching over 7,000 yards from the tips. An Island green and even an island fairway are just two of the signature holes the King has in store. There is also a pot bunker with a 5 foot vertical lip, a drivable par 4 over water and the 18th awaits with countless bunkers.

I don't wish to scare or discourage any golfers. In fact, with 6 sets of tees to play from, these challenging obstacles become fun and conquering them is a feat you will remember for a lifetime. Once of the signature holes, number 6 "The Gambler" is a par 5 with an island fairway. Hit the island for a chance to reach the green in 2 or play it safe and go around the perimeter.

Another signature hole, number 12, is an island par 3 with two bunkers on the left hand side that are in the shape of "S" "C" for South Carolina. Though it may look nice, don't let your ball get in them or you will have a tough bunker shot back onto the green with water on the opposite side.

The North course truly is King at National and is one that should be played by all who visit Myrtle Beach. Come find out why Golf Digest calls Kings North one of the "Top 100 public courses in America."
