Review: Prestwick 5/19/12

The course you've been "Dye"ing to play

Date Played: May 19, 2012

Saturday was my first time down to Prestwick Country Club in over a year. I was excited to get the chance to play the course before the renovations are done this Summer.

This Pete and P.B. Dye course is a great test of golf. The highly skilled player will love the management that is needed to attack the course while the higher handicap player can still play the beautiful layout. This course isn't as Dyeabolical as some of Dye's more famous courses like Whistling Straits or The Ocean Course but his influence is strongly present.

The fairways are more generous and forgiving and the greens are not as penalizing for missed shots. However, target golf is still the name of the game. Certain holes require forced carries if you are to be aggressive but there are also alternate routes if you feel like playing it safe.

The 9th and 18th Holes at Prestwick surround a 50 acre lake which sets the tone for the the entire round. When you first enter the clubhouse and see the finishers of each 9 you think, "this is going to be a good round."

Prestwick is a must play for locals and visitors alike and was named "Top 5 Best-Kept Secrets in Golf" and was given a rating of 4.5 stars by Golf Digest. Come find out what has propelled this course to one of the finest golfing establishments along the Grand Strand.
